Functionality

Even though Microsoft Dynamics GP is written (from the ground up) for the latest architecture ? i.e. true 32-bit, true windows and optimised for SQL Server ? it has huge breadth in functionality. This is because the product is mature (now version 9.0) and because development, by a huge army of Independent Software Vendors (ISV?s like M4 Systems) has always been strongly encouraged by Great Plains and Microsoft. The best of these have been purchased and incorporated into the core product. This breadth of functionality available ensures that - bespoke development or customisation needs are kept to an absolute minimum. Numerous modules are available covering most activities for most industries.

Security of Investment
The number of Accounting System vendors is reducing dramatically in the face of increasingly fierce global competition. This has resulted in numerous systems simply being discontinued following takeover or liquidation or continued but just milked for support revenue with no investment in R&D. Illustrating this is the recent bid by Peoplesoft for JD Edwards promptly followed by a bid from Oracle to acquire Peoplesoft (June 2003 ? completed Dec 2004)

The amount of resources required to fund the necessary R&D to remain competitive is constantly increasing. Most existing suppliers have even struggled to find the necessary resources to get to a true 32-bit Windows based system ? something Dynamics GP achieved over 7 years ago. It is quite remarkably how many currently available systems are still based upon DOS or UNIX technologies from the 1980?s but with a Windows Screen Scraper as a front end.

Microsoft invests more in R&D (Over $6.0 Billion pa) than any other Software Company and has over $50 Billion dollars of cash even after paying a special dividend of $32 Billion. We believe few companies will have the resources to keep up with the dramatic advances being created by this R&D and shipping this year ? such as Role Based User experience and the deep integration with Office 12 and Windows Vista - which will ship October 2006 and will bring huge productivity benefits because of the embedded Workflow engine

Microsoft see their Business Solutions Division as one of they key drivers of their growth ? hence they are investing a disproportionate share of their R&D into this division, around 30% ($2.0 Billion pa) 15 times the rate for mature divisions.

Dynamics GP is a modern real time system, which provides up to the minute accurate information covering all areas of you business - it also has the ability to show your exact position now and at any historical point in time for debtors, creditors, cash and inventory.

Following recent accounting scandals such as Enron, there is much more emphasis on transparency of information and upon accuracy. Dynamics GP with Frx enables single click accurate instant reporting showing your true position at any point in time with full drill down across all modules to source documents and supporting data such as scanned invoices or spreadsheets.

Slicing and dicing data and viewing performance by: project/ contract / division cost centre / customer / product group etc is effortless.

Data extraction and analysis is quick and easy via built in smart lists, enquiries and reports or via industry standard tools such as Excel (including Pivot Tables) Access, Crystal Reports. The system incorporates work-flow design, for example Requisitions, Expenses and Time Sheets can be easily entered via ?out of the box? Intranet then routed and approved on-line - before being posted all the way through to the ledgers with no re-keying of data, dramatically improving productivity, control and accuracy plus eliminating paper trails.

Strong Integration between Dynamics GP and Office allows data to be very easily exchanged between the application enabling detailed analysis or reconciliations or document management to be performed with a few mouse clicks.
Dynamics GP is a real-time date driven system, reports can be easily run to reflect the position at any historical point in time - negating the need to print mountains of reports every month-end.

The Help system is extremely comprehensive and context sensitive and full blown video tutorials come with the system reducing the need for expensive consultancy based training.

Flexibility and Integration
Dynamics GP is very easy to configure to match the way in which you work.
There are lots of user defined fields and user configurable set-up options.
Screens can easily be changed and fields can be added or removed and additional business logic quickly added.

Integration is also relatively easy - with other system you may have, using the Integration Manager module which allows point and click mapping between a feeder systems and Dynamics GP. Rules can be added and excellent exception handling and reporting is included. Web Services are also now included with touch points throughout all modules enabling rapid development real-time high volume integrations to feeder systems and e-commerce applications.

For any problems that do occur there is a superb web based knowledge management system available to both partners and customers. This enables rapid resolution of most issue that arise.

Microsoft SQL 2000 or 2005 is an extremely robust and reliable database which incorporates a transaction log ? all transactions are logged and only integral transactions are committed to the database. Dynamics GP utilises this log to automatically roll back the system to a last good state in instances such as a workstation crash. Also with SQL Server it is easy to schedule backups say every half an hour so that if someone makes a human error it is easy to take the system back in time to just before the error occurred instead of having to go back to the previous evening.

Dynamics GP was written from scratch as a true windows 32-bit system (the first one!)
The 3 tier client server architecture provides huge scalability, enabling intensive processes to be offloaded to specified workstations or pools of workstations.

Dynamics GP is an open system? it is ODBC, SQL, COM compliant and has Web Services throughout this enables data to be easily and securely exchanged with other applications.
